ART248 Kiln Cast Glass-Beginning
3 credit hours, 6 Lecture/Lab hours
Provides an introduction and technical information on casting solid sculptural glass forms and hollow glass containing forms using open and closed face molds. Includes an extension of the glass chemistry and finishing techniques presented in ART247. Prerequisite: ART247 and at least one of the following studio art classes: ART154; ART244, ART245, or ART246; ART291, ART292, or ART293. ART115 and ART116. Offered as needed
ART248B Kiln Cast Glass-Intermediate
3 credit hours, 6 Lab hours
Exposes students to the fundamentals necessary to problem solving advanced casting projects. Presents multiple mold making processes for reproduction and for high temperature casting. Includes glass testing, sculpting in a variety of materials, cold-working, firing, and taking safety precautions. Also covers the exploration of the historical and contemporary development of cast art glass. Uses assignments to develop more advanced glass casting skills. Prerequisite: ART248 or consent of instrutor. Offered as needed.
